The food is very good here, with a nice variety of things to eat. The staff was terrific, very friendly with fast service. It’s a comfortable place to eat, the ambiance and the staff make you feel right at home. ~ K.Z.

My wife and I had lunch at the Windbreak Hotel and Cafe, also known as the Trouthouse. The food was great, the service was prompt and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. If your looking for a nice lunch or dinner, I highly recommend stopping in. ~B.D.

The weekend special prime rib,or shrimp & cream cheese salmon fillet, or shrimp stuffed halibut are amazing !! The staff is always friendly & we’ve had the kitchen manager come out to check on us to see if the food & service were to our liking !! Never had an issue here, I don’t understand how people think this place is racist when they have employees who are black, Native, etc. ~J.C.

I’ve never had a bad experience here at the wind break. We come here every Saturday morning for the best breakfasts! The staff is always nice. ~E.E.

The food is great whenever I come here and have never had a issue with service rendered. The staff is always friendly regardless of who is in my party and what their ethnicity is . ~R.C.

Locally owned business that’s been around as long as I can remember. Owner is a big fisherman and the decor is lined with local people’s fish catching photos. Great food however it can be very packed so you might have to wait a little while especially Sundays around lunchtime. ~ K.

G the fish on the wall.reat place to have breakfast with the locals. Good portions, fast and friendly service. ~ J.B.

We stayed in the hotel, they had the best rates in town and the rooms were comfortable and very clean,my wife and I ate breakfast and dinner both days , the food was excellent(try the ribeye steak and the cream cheese shrimp topped salmon), the waitstaff was very nice and kept my coffee full without having to ask .. I rate this place a 5 and will definitely be coming back when in town. ~ B.

My favorite breakfast spot! Been going here for many years. The staff is very professional and down-to-earth. ~ A.

I have been coming to this place for as long as I can remember. I’ve never been disappointed with them! They are so kind to me and I recommend them to everyone. I am from a Russian background and they are so nice, they have such a diverse team of wait staff, every race you can think of works there! How amazing is that?! The food exceeds my expectations and I highly recommend the “Windbreak Skillet”! ~ A.

Windbreak is always a great place to eat. I return there every trip to Wasilla. Service was good and breakfast was great. See you next trip. ~ D.W.

My granddaughters always want to go to thre Break for hamburgers when they visit. They think the Trout House is the best in the valley for a burger and fries. ~ S.P.

Food was good, little on greasy side but. Will go back. People seemed to be enjoying themselves. They also have an area for private parties if needed with no additional charge if you order some food. ~ K.B.

The breakfast here are very large & good. We have eaten here 3 time during our stay in Wasilla & the service was good. ~ L.L.

We were in Wasilla and Anchorage for business and our prospective customer took us for lunch to Trout’s Place. It the local spot and the food was really good. Had the salmon burger…had to have it being in Alaska. ~ J.M.

Went to this place like 5 years ago, returned last week..twice 🙂 Once for breakfast and once for lunch Food was great both times, good portions and flavorful. Definitely recommend this place. You can sit in the restaurant or in the adjoining lounge. We chose the lounge, has a little yesterday” feel….really nice servers too, very helpful. Even tho we did not stay there, they also have nice clean rooms starting at $49.00 !!!! ~ M.B.

I’ve been coming here, literally, since the place opened back in the 70’s. They, like most local, long-term family style restaurants, have had their ups-and-downs and the UPS have far exceeded the downs. The menu is consistent, scrumptious and satisfying. One of the latest steps they have taken is to revert back to more ‘home-made’ things made on site rather than frozen, packaged cardboard. That’s been a great plus. It’s hard to tear myself away from my standard – Cajun Omelet, ‘home fries’ (actually deep-fried diced potatoes – one of the few negative items for me, but better than standard breakfast hash-browns), sourdough toast and extra salsa – but I’ve tried many of the treats they serve. The ‘daily special’ changes regularly and usually a really good deal. I’ll be back more and again. This is a home-town standard for me. ~ D.T.

As a Wasilla resident I’ve had the pleasure of eating at Windbreak on several occasions. Whether taking friends to celebrate an occasion, enjoying a moment with my mom, or having a nice meal after a long night at work I have always been impressed by the quality and portion of food as well as the service. I will always go back. If friends come from out of town and we can only go out for one meal, I’d take them there. ~ N.H.

Food is really good!! Many choices on the menu! Not really fancy, but we like it!! There’s a hotel too, but I don’t know anything about it! Never stayed here, just ate!! ~ W.R.

Trout’s has a diner area and a lounge area with the same menu. Liquor is available in the lounge/bar, which is more upscale than the diner area. The menu is extensive, with a wide variety of food available. The three of us had the prime rib sandwiches with fries. I thought Trout’s was a good choice for a casual dinner with a good quantity of food, reasonable prices and the option of having a drink with your meal. I would go back for more. ~ M.P.

My family can be picky at times, but we all can find something we like at windbreak. I almost always get breakfast when we go, because it’s amazing, even mid day. I have sampled many of their lunches and dinners as well, never had anything that wasn’t delicious. This place doesn’t try to be something it’s not, food always comes out fast, portions are huge, and service good. The bang-for-the-buck might be the best around for Wasilla. Only downside is that it can be VERY busy come breakfast time, as well as weekends as this is not a “hidden gem”, it’s a favorite among locals, even then, you won’t leave disappointed. ~ J.M.
